Mt. Fuji ( Fuji-san) at a peak altitude of 3776 m (12388 ft) , is Japan's highest mountain and one of the world's most symmetical cones. Its extensive base is laden with lakes, waterfalls, virgin forests, ice caves and various alpine plants - all combining to enhance its natural beauty. This region is an ideal recreation area year-round, with camping, hiking and fishing enjoyed in summer, or skating and skiing in winter.
Mt. Fuji is officially opened to climbers on July 1 and closed on August 31. There are five climbing trails, the most popular starting from Lake Kawaguchi.
